User Manual

Updated 2025-04-28

Info

This is the new User Manual for SBOM Central and MAIA. It is still under construction.

The legacy manual: https://maiasoftware.support/usermanual-cms/

This user manual is organized into three primary sections:

  1. SBOM Central (SBOMC): A comprehensive SBOM management service designed to enhance software security through vulnerability detection, component health monitoring, open-source licensing compliance, and more. SBOMC provides real-time insights into vulnerabilities, exploits, and software updates while facilitating the sharing of SBOMs and decisions with stakeholders.
  2. MAIA Software (MAIA): A robust DevSecOps tool that integrates seamlessly with existing development pipelines. MAIA automates security processes, maintains license and vulnerability data for builds, and provides detailed reports for stakeholders. It enables cross-tool traceability, ensuring a unified view of the software lifecycle while prioritizing security and operational efficiency.
  3. Information Services: A centralized service that retrieves essential internet data to support web applications. These services facilitate the smooth operation of web-based applications by delivering real-time data to enhance functionality and user experience.

Introduction

Developing and managing modern software is an increasingly complex task involving a multitude of tools, services, and dynamic supply chains. Insufficient visibility into the software composition increases cybersecurity risks and development and maintenance costs.

MAIA Software is a platform designed to cooperate with the tools you already use to manage complexity, traceability, security, and more. The platform consists of two main parts:

  1. Web Services (WebApp), containing the user interface, data storage, API:s, messaging, business logic, and more.
  2. Information Services, encompass specialized services that aggregate data from multiple external sources and deliver consolidated information to the WebApp instances.

MAIA Software may be operated both as:

  1. a DevSecOps tool with all features active (the WebApp in MAIA mode).
  2. a SBOM Central service (the WebApp in SBOM Central mode). Primarily a SaaS solution that can serve many customers, focusing on open-source security, licensing, and health. On-prem options are also available.
